      Running with Skeeter

Bought the FreeStep6. Had no problem running on the icy road with my dog. Didn't even know I had them on. Very pleased with this product and would recommend them. They fit both my boots and running shoes.

Hi Jane, thank you for giving us an informative 5-star review and sharing your running partner, Skeeter! We're glad your FreeSteps6 have been making icy running easier and comfortable. Happy trails to you both!

      Totally worth it

I purchased the free steps for wading in areas that were usually very treacherous. Although you still have to be careful , I can definitely feel a difference in navigating the runs. Highly recommend this product.

Hi Russell, thank you so much for leaving your review! We are stoked to hear you have found the FreeSteps6 helpful for river wading & we are happy they have improved your over-all experience!

      Well made and effective

I've had one pair for many years, and it's been great. Footing is very secure with these, on ice and packed snow. So I ordered a second pair in a larger size to fit some warmer boots, but they turned out to be a little big for the sole. So if your shoe size is on the border between, say, L and XL, you may want to order both sizes.

You need to be sure the rubber upper is pulled all the way up onto the sides and back of your foot-wear, or else the cleats and chains may be loose. If you have deep lugs or heavily patterned soles, the chains may hang up and make it hard to get them properly tensioned. The rubber is very high quality and stretchy, but you may need real hand strength to stretch the cleats into position. Once in place, though, they are very secure.

      Hillsound Rocks!

I've been using the Hillsound Trail Crampons for a year now, but sometimes find them to be too much in terms of spike length and weight...great for ice, but thought I might try something a little lighter and less aggressive for lighter conditions. The Free Steps 6 turned out to be exactly what I was looking for...lighter and less cumbersome in terms of my stride and how high I have to lift my feet. I was concerned that the Free Steps didn't have the velcro cross-strap featured on the Trail Crampon, but have yet to encounter a problem with them slipping. My only small criticism is that the Free Steps 6 (XL) I purchased seemed to fit a touch bigger that the XL in the Trail Crampons...the rear set of spikes move a little, but makes no difference in terms of overall performance. All in all I'm delighted with both sets of icers, and I feel particularly good to be supporting a Canadian company that supports causes I am aligned with.

Hi Jamie, Thank you for taking the time to leave such a detailed review. We really appreciate your support! Glad to hear you gave our FreeSteps6 a try and they aligned with what you were looking for. Enjoy the rest of your winter season!
